Lee A. Klombers, M.D., was born in Brooklyn, NY, and spent most of his childhood in Long Beach, Long Island. After graduating from Long Beach High School, he attended Amherst College where he double majored in chemistry and mathematics and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1976. He then worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense for two years in the computer field in Annapolis, Maryland.
 
He attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1982. He then did an internship in medicine at Montefiore Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh. He attended Duke University Eye Center for his Ophthalmology Residency from 1987-1990, and stayed at Duke for his fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, Adult Strabismus, and Neuro-Ophthalmology, completing that in 1991.  He has published scientific papers on pediatric intraocular lens implantation and strabismus surgery, and presented to the Frank Walsh Society.
 
Dr. Klombers is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), American Academy of Ophthalmology, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Berks County Medical Society.
 
Dr. Klombers came to eastern Pennsylvania in 1991 and has been in private practice since completing his fellowship, specializing only in the areas of his interest. He has performed over 5000 strabismus operations and over 1000 adjustable suture procedures for the correction of misaligned eyes. He manages the spectrum of ocular diseases in the pediatric population, including eye movement disorders, lazy eye, cataracts, glaucoma, lid abnormalities and tear duct dysfunction. He both monitors and treats neonatal eye disease (retinopathy of prematurity) through the neonatal intensive care units at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, Lancaster General Hospital (Women and Babies), and Ephrata Community Hospital.  Dr. Klombers is also on staff at HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital.
 
Dr. Klombers also has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of all forms of neurologic visual diseases such as double vision, brain tumors, stroke, head trauma,  MS, Parkinson's disease, myasthenia gravis, temporal arteritis, pseudotumor cerebri, ischemic optic neuropathy and Graves' disease. He is skilled in the use of therapeutic botulinum toxin for facial movement disorders such as blepharospasm, Meige Syndrome, hemifacial spasm and torticollis.

Dr. Klombers is a youth ice hockey head coach, certified by USA Hockey. His hobbies are golf, baseball card collecting and architectural design.  Dr. Klombers is married and has three beautiful children.
